Taxation is a fee or levy by the government on individuals, profit making corporate bodies,goods and services. Tax is collected by the government for the purpose of raising revenue to finance public goods and services.

Taxation can be classified into two categories thus:

(i) Direct Taxation: This is the tax levied on individuals as Personal Income Tax and on profit making corporate organizations as Company Income Tax.

(ii) Indirect Taxation: This is the tax levied on goods and services in form of Value Added Tax, Sales Tax etd.
