LIRS Optimizes Payment Procedure on eTax for Taxpayers

For maximum effectiveness and the convenience of taxpayers, the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) is currently improving its payment processes.

In a statement released on Sunday, Mr. Ayodele Subair, theĀ  Lagos State Internal Revenue Service executive chairman, said that the agency would stop using all previous bill references as of August 1st, 2022 as part of its digitalization process.

Therefore, only the bill references generated by Enterprise Tax Solutions (eTax), in the Chairman’s opinion, will be recognized for tax payments.

Launched by LIRS in October 2019, the eTax platform (https://etax.lirs.net) aims to facilitate smooth tax operations and lower taxpayer compliance expenses. Since its introduction, eTax has increased the efficiency of tax collection in Lagos State.

The creation of bill references, which are necessary for all tax payments, is now restricted to the eTax platform, according to Mr. Subair, who noted that the eTax was designed as a one-stop-shop for all tax transactions.

He emphasized that by the deadline of August 1st, 2022, only eTax will be permitted to produce bill references for tax payments and other tax-related operations in Lagos State.

To generate a bill reference on e-Tax, taxpayers can use the 5 easy steps below:

  1. Visit https://etax.lirs.net
  2. Input your Payer ID and password to log in
  3. Select revenue type, and upload schedule (For PAYE & Withholding Taxes)
  4. Generate a bill reference
  5. Make a payment on any of the multiple channels available, using the generated bill reference.
